Community Meeting on Police Militarization and Terror in San Leandro

Please come to share your story, discuss and organize around:
- San Leandro Police Department (SLPD) profiling/harassment of people of color
- SLPD shooting and killing people of color fleeing from police: 3 shootings in 3 months
- SLPD slandering & devaluing the life of Latino SLHS/SLAM graduate homicide victim
- SLPD militarization, including BearCat & military-grade weapons
- Increasing use of surveillance on residents and those under no suspicion
- Cameras with undisclosed microphones installed at City Hall
- Surveillance cameras on the border with Oakland and other parts of the city
- Major expansion of license plate readers in 2 years
- Use of “stingrays” to monitor cell phone calls and other communications
- SLPD’s use of School Resource Police Officers, in a district where 90% of students are children of color, to create dossiers on students “at risk” behavior starting in elementary school, and monitoring children’s personal use of social media
- SLPD’s attempt to divert education funds from classrooms to the Police Department budget, taking education from children of color
- SLPD’s leadership in passing an ordinance requiring residents to waive their 4th amendment rights against warrantless searches as a condition of getting a permit to keep chickens or bees
