For those looking to help the family of San Leandro High freshman Myrna Umanzor, who was tragically killed last Friday, SLUSD has helped set up the Myrna Umanzor Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo’s downtown San Leandro branch. Anyone wishing to make a contribution can either send a check directly to the bank or bring a check (made out to Myrna Umanzor Memorial Fund) or cash to any District school site to be deposited to the account.

SLUSD's No E-mail policy

In this day and age most people with computers at home prefer to communicate by e-mail.  It’s quicker, convenient and recipients can read your e-mail when it’s convenient for them.  The San Leandro School District, however, makes e-mailing teachers and administrators almost impossible.  They use a spam filtering system which by default sends most messages from certain domains (including gmail.com, but also private domains) straight to the spam folder.  If the recipient doesn’t check their spam folder – and, personally, I rarely check mine -, they’ll never see it.  If you’re lucky, they may see it a day after you [Continue Reading]

At the Jan. 23rd meeting, Luke Sims, the city’s Community Development Director, mentioned that 40% of his $200K+ salary comes from Redevelopment money, and if the city wants to keep him, the City Council will have to find the money to make up the difference. Now, this seems to me like a perfect opportunity to get rid of the “community” development director, which has done little to improve San [Continue Reading]
