Democratic Elections: Is Ignacio De La Fuente Planning a Coup d'Parti?

I heard yesterday that Oakland City Council Member Ignacio De La Fuente wants to become Chair of the Alameda County Democratic Party.  Not only is he running for the Democratic Central Committee, but he has a slate of candidates running with him.  Among these are Claudia Burgos, one of his staffers, Mónica Tell, a former Perata staffer close to De La Fuente and Monique Rivera, whom De La Fuente endorsed when she ran for BART.  All of these are running for District 18, which includes San Leandro (and therefore they are running against me).  De La Fuente also has allies [Continue Reading]

City Gossip: Mack-Rose may challenge Reed.

There is talk around town that San Leandro School Board President, Morgan Mack-Rose, may challenge District 2 Council Member Ursula Reed in the November 2012 elections.   Mack-Rose will neither confirm or deny the rumor. Both women ran very good campaigns back in 2008 (full disclosure, I actively helped Mack-Rose with her campaign for School Board) – Reed defeated former Council Member and then-current School Board Member Linda Perry, while Mack-Rose easily won over incumbent School Board president Ray Davis.   Both women were new to politics and ran mostly grass roots campaigns, though Reed also benefited from backing by Police, Firefighters, [Continue Reading]

City Gossip: Mayor is moving

Mayor Cassidy has put his Estudillo Estates home for sale, a mere 3 months after taking office.  The 2,000+ sq. ft. house has 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms and features a cute detached office in the backyard.  It’s on the market for $615,000.  You can look at the listing here, or, if you’re really curious as to how our current Mayor lives, go the open house this Sunday, April 17th.
