Aisha Knowles Shows How To Do It

Last year, I gave Aisha Knowles a very hard time when she was running for Alameda County Board of Education.  Aisha, at that time, had not demonstrated she understood what the Board did. A year later, I’m happy to say that she’s proven me wrong. She’s become an extremely committed Board member, visiting the juvenile detention centers (the county Board is responsible for the education of incarcerated students) and researching first hand what needs are and are not met. She’s also taking a hands-on approach to the issues that confront other students under her jurisdiction. For example, the high school [Continue Reading]

Swalwell Touts Pelosi's "support" at fundraiser

but who is supporting whom? There is little doubt that Eric Swalwell knows how to work the local press – and, in particular, how to work BANG political columnist Josh Richman.  Not that it takes much: just issuing a press release can go a long way. It’s Swalwell’s talent for texting, however, that got Richman to run a second column on the fundraiser that Nancy Pelosi ostensibly held for the young Congressman in Washington DC earlier today (Monday, May 6th).  I say “ostensibly” because so far there is little evidence that anyone other than Swalwell, Pelosi and Swalwell’s boss, House [Continue Reading]

Chris Crow, My Candidate for San Leandro City Council

It’s no secret that I support Chris Crow for City Council.  To many people, however, it is surprising – though I’m not entirely sure why. It’s true, when I first met Chris in the comments area of San Leandro Patch, and later on my San Leandro Talk Facebook page, I wasn’t his biggest fan. I thought he was cocky, sort of a know-it-all, and let his enthusiasm get ahead of fact-checking or analysis. We argued a lot. My opinion of him started changing when I took a greater interest in the Bal Theater’s struggles with City Hall. As my kids [Continue Reading]

On Sept. 15th, the Alameda County Democratic Party interviewed candidates seeking its endorsement for local office.   Among those interviewed were Mary Hayashi and Richard Valle who are running for Alameda Council Supervisor (along with independent Mark Greene, who is not running a campaign). I asked both the same question: “How do you exemplify the values of integrity and honesty we want for our elected officials?”. Here are their answers: Here is my posting with the Police Report on her arrest. Note: This posting has been modified since its original publication.

Mary Hayashi: The Police Report

Last October, Assembly Member Mary Hayashi went shopping to Neiman Marcus in San Francisco, and left with a few more things that she had paid for.  She was arrested for shoplifting, eventually plead “no contest”, and in between lots of the details of her shoplifting excursion were released.  However, until now, they’ve come out in a piecemeal manner. Here is the whole story from the Police Incident Report: On 10/23/11, Ofc Sy #1764 and I responded to 150 Stockton St.  Neiman Marcus, regarding a theft. Upon our arrival, we met with Swain, Loss Prevention Agent for Neiman Marcus, who stated [Continue Reading]
